Karate Kun

Karate Kun was traditionally recited at the beginning or at the end of a class to foster spirit for Karate and to remind students to conduct themselves in a proper manner,

Befitting a Karateka.

 


 Shotokan

Hitotsu. Jinkaku kansei ni tsutomuru koto
Hitotsu. Makoto no michi wo mamoru koto
Hitotsu. Doryoku no Seishin wo yashinau koto
Hitotsu. Reigi wo omonzuru koto
Hitotsu. Kekki no yu wo imashimuru koto

First. Seek perfection of character
First. Protect the way of the truth
First. Foster the spirit of effort                                                      
First. Respect the principles of etiquette and respect others
First. Guard against impetuous courage and refrain from violent behaviour.

 


 Goju

Hitotsu Reigi O Omon Zuru Koto
Respect others

Hitotsu Yuki O Yashinau Koto
Be courageous

Hitotsu Shinshin O Renmashi
Train your mind and body

Wado Ryu

 and leads to Wa-No-Michi (Way of Peace)

MOKUTEKI -----------(Purpose)
The purpose of the Wado-Ryu System of Karate and the Federation of All Japan Karate-Do Organizations, at any Dojo affiliated with the Federation, is to teach the Japanese Martial Arts, its attitudes, traditions and culture, and to teach a way of harmony with the student, within the student, and around the student.

SONKEI -------------(Reverence)
Revere that which is Holy.  Honor your Father and Mother.  Respect your elders and other people's property and rights.

KANSHA -------------(Thankfulness)
Be thankful for all things:  your life, friendship and love.  Thankfulness will bring happiness.

SHUYO --------------(Discipline)
Discipline your mind and body so that you have absolute control over both of them. Only a disciplined person can achieve his goal.

MAKOTO -------------(Sincerity)
A person's character will be judged by his sincerity and integrity.  Only a sincere person can be worthy of friendship.

TOITSU -------------(Unity)
Unity of one's mind and singleness of one's purpose are essential to success.  Concentrate on one thing at a given time.

 

Kyokushin

  1. Hitotsu, wareware wa, shinshin o renmashi, kakko fubatsu no shingi o kiwameru koto.
    We will train our hearts and bodies for a firm unshaken spirit.
  2. Hitotsu, wareware wa, bu no shinzui o kiwame, ki ni hasshi, kan ni bin naru koto.
    We will pursue the true meaning of the martial way so that, in time, our senses may be alert.

  3. Hitotsu, wareware wa, shitsujitsu goken o motte, kokki no seishin o kanyo suru koto.
    With true vigour, we will seek to cultivate a spirit of self-denial.

  4. Hitotsu, wareware wa, reisetsu o omonji, chojo o keishi, sobo no furumai o tsutsushimu koto.
    We will observe the rules of courtesy, respect our superiors, and refrain from violence.

  5. Hitotsu, wareware wa, shinbutsu o totobi, kenjo no bitoku o wasurezaru koto.
    We will follow our religious principles and never forget the true virtue of humility.

  6. Hitotsu, wareware wa, chisei to tairyoku to o kojo sase, koto ni nozonde ayamatazaru koto.
    We will look upwards to wisdom and strength, not seeking other desires.

  7. Hitotsu, wareware wa, shogai no shugyo o karate no michi ni tsuji, Kyokushin no michi o mattou suru koto.
    All our lives, through the discipline of karate, we will seek to fulfill the true meaning of the Kyokushin way.
